Background & History

he David Posnack JCC's premier special needs summer camp, Camp Giborim, serves over 145 children and young adults between the ages of 3-22.  The mission of Camp Giborim, meaning “heroes” in Hebrew, is to offer a traditional recreational summer camp environment for special needs campers with autism, Down syndrome, developmental delays and various other disabilities.  The camp is filled with innovative activities and creative programming and a culture of inclusion through daily interaction with the general camp population.

The special needs population is experiencing a steady increase with a greater demand for a year-round program for youth and adults. The J is committed to working with this special population and developed Giborim U, a new program designed for both adults and youth.
